This is to those of you who understand... :) or would like to. I suppose *should* is too strong of a word.

As much as I am appreciating the drawl and many extra hours that the Easter long weekend brings, I don't want to let things and tasks and obligations I've set myself on catching up on to clutter and pile up to the point where I can't even reflect on the sacrifice of my Lord. So I've been listening to this song over and over and over again... it's called "Beautiful Scandalous Night" by The Choir. I don't really remember how I stumbled upon this song, but the first time I heard it a couple years ago, the word "scandalous" made me do a double take. Who would use the word scandalous in a song about Christ's crucifixion? The first thing that came to mind were the shrill voices of the "Ashleys" on the show Recess echoing in unison "SCANDALOUS!" whenever a fourth-grader would blatantly defy a recess rule, like hoarding the swings so Swing Girl couldn't do her thing. Or, of course, there's the slang meaning of scandalous nowadays that implies skimpy skirts and other types of seductive immodesty. Anyway, I curiously looked up the real meaning of the word and it actually means "disgraceful; shameful or shocking; improper" and "giving offense to moral sensibilities and injurious to reputation." Hmm, makes more sense now. Jesus' death really was shameful and offensive, especially to those who had thought he was the One to deliver them, the King of the Jews. But because of his shame and because of his blood, we are all cleansed and purified...

Beautiful Scandalous Night

go on up to the mountain of mercy
to the crimson perpetual tide
kneel down on the shore
be thirsty no more
go under and be purified

follow Christ to the Holy mountain
sinner, sorry and wrecked by the fall
cleanse your heart and your soul
in the fountain that flows
for you and for me and for all

at the wonderful tragic mysterious tree
on that beautiful scandalous night you and me
were atoned by His blood and forever washed white
on that beautiful scandalous night

on the hillside you will be delivered
at the foot of the cross, justified
and your spirit restored
by the river that pours
from our blessed Saviour's side

at the wonderful tragic mysterious tree
on that beautiful scandalous night you and me
were atoned by His blood and forever washed white
on that beautiful scandalous night
you carry the sin of mankind on your back
and the sky went black
go on up to the mountain of mercy
to the crimson perpetual tide
kneel down on the shore
be thirsty no more
go under and be purified

on that beautiful scandalous night
beautiful scandalous
miraculous night
miraculous night

For some reason, God always knows what He's doing...

so I just need to trust Him.

And I need to sleep.

Urbana was awesome. (Hooray for webcasts.) A little taste of worship in heaven, seeing old friends, meeting new friends, delving deeper into truth, taking different perspectives, loading up on cheap books, and making new commitments... Ajith rocks my world. So does Daryl Black. haha.

Gloria a Dios. :)

btw, happy new year.

christmas break indeed

I'm trying to think when was the last time I forgot what day it was, and when it didn't matter either. For a couple days now, (or is it almost a week? ah, who cares..) I've been chilling in Ottawa - yes, the lovely nation's capital - with my cousins spending everyday pretty much sleeping in, eating lots, cooking lots, shopping for more cooking, eating and sleeping some more, enjoying homemade wine, reading Murakami, jogging infrequently as weather permits, and ... I'm forgetting something, oh yeah - watching movies. The past week's list is quite extensive, and it's still growing: It's a Wonderful Life, Sleepers, Amelie, The Grizzly Man, When Harry Met Sally, Motorcycle Diaries, Nacho Libre, Casino Royale, Blood Diamond, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and lined up for tonight: Fearless. Some days I feel borderline guilty for being so useless and indulgent - but then again, other days I see it as a much-deserved break from this past semester's craziness x10. So, as much as I miss Vancouver and all its lovely people, I must say that I'm really enjoying my near-isolation vacation here in Ottawa, which really gives me an opportunity to take a breath before the bombardment of thousands upon thousands of Urbana people and a hyped-up road trip to the oh-so-lovely and exciting state of Kansas. :) For the record, I believe it's Friday today... right?
